STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Those longing for sweater weather won’t be happy: It’s looking like it will generally be a warmer fall this year.

According to a seasonal temperature outlook issued on Aug. 21 by the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center , there is a 50-60% chance that temperatures in New York will “likely” exceed their average measurements from September through November. The only exception is the westernmost edge of the state which has a 40-50% probability of predominantly recording above-average temperatures over the course of the next three months.
