Reacting to the purge of high-level officials at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) who are refusing to bend to the will and demands of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., conservative attorney George Conway accused the Donald Trump administration of attempting to plunge the U.S. back into the “dark ages.”

Speaking with the hosts on MSNBC’s “The Weekend,” Conway brought up Trump firing the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics because he disagreed with the job numbers coming out of the department, which he claims were made-up without any presenting evidence.

As he explained on Saturday, “Everything has to be under [his] control, including reality and facts. Which is why we can't have people talking about facts”

He continued, “It's why we can't have independent people figuring out what unemployment is or what inflation is –– it's why we can't have all these nice things that allow us to behave like a 21st century society.”

“What's happening here is we're going back to the dark ages because they can't cope with reality, they don't want to cope with reality,” he elaborated. “They want to create their own reality, and the problem is, as we saw with those people talking, yelling, booing [GOP lawmakers] at town halls, people aren't buying it.”
