SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end of summer in western Massachusetts, following a particularly hot season with five heat waves.
As the meteorological start to fall begins on September 1, residents are experiencing a welcome change in weather, with cooler temperatures arriving just in time for the holiday weekend.
"The summer gets too hot for me," said Carol Daigle of Longmeadow. "When we vacation, we actually go to cooler places. We spent two weeks in Europe this summer in the mountains where it was cooler than the 90 degrees here."
The average high temperature for this time of year at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee is around 80 degrees, with average lows in the mid to upper 50s. Finally, the weather has gotten cooler, and people were enjoying
