Greek Fest returned on Friday for its 24th year, kicking off a weekend of food, music, and culture in Saanich.

The admission-free festival runs from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 at the Greek Community Centre (4648 Elk Lake Drive) beside Commonwealth Place, daily from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Festival-goers can enjoy live performances from more than 20 dance and music groups, alongside traditional Greek dishes such as roasted lamb, souvlaki, spanakopita, baklava, and loukoumades.

For many, Greek Fest has become a summer staple.

“We have been coming to Greek Fest since we moved to the area,” said Sarah Carten. “It’s always something that we pencil in to the calendar, and make sure to celebrate.”

Carten said the event holds special memories for her family.
