O'Fallon, Ill. — A man who refused to drop a knife he was holding was shot and killed by an O'Fallon, Illinois, police officer Thursday night, state police said.

O'Fallon officers responded to a call about a disturbance in the 600 block of West Madison Street and saw two people running from a man who was holding a knife, state police said in a release. The two were covered in blood, state police said.

The man did not drop the knife when ordered to, and an O'Fallon police officer shot him, Illinois state police said. The man died at the scene.

The two victims were taken to a hospital with "non-life-threatening cuts and stab wounds," state police said. The officer was not injured.
