Arguably the state’s most competitive district in all of Class 5A, the opening week of the 2025 season included wins by each of the four playoff qualifiers from a year ago out of 4-5A Division II.

Lovejoy scored a measure of revenge after a trip out to Lubbock, while Walnut Grove’s offense produced at a prolific clip to begin its third-ever season, and Frisco Emerson leaned on its defense to outlast McKinney in its first game under head coach Billy Ellis.
