BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

Before kickoff at the Bishop Bowl at John Carroll Catholic High School, Bishop Steven J. Raica of the Diocese of Birmingham blessed the new Pat Sullivan Field, honoring one of the school's most notable alumni. The school also said a prayer, honoring the lives lost in Minneapolis during a church shooting earlier this week.

The Bishop Bowl is the annual matchup between the Diocese of Birmingham and the Archdiocese of Mobile. This year, the John Carroll Cavaliers took on the St. Michaels Cardinals. The Cardinals took home the win with a final score of 49-28.

The new field honors Sullivan, who played three sports at the high school in the 1960s. He went on to play quarterback at Auburn University, becoming the school's first Heisman Trophy winner in 1971.
