Aug. 29—Former Boulder City Council candidate Steven Rosenblum and resident Eric Budd have agreed to a settlement to bring an end to a high-profile defamation lawsuit from the 2021 council campaign.

The lawsuit alleged that Budd conspired to defame Rosenblum. Budd admitted to creating a fake Reddit account claiming to be the candidate. The case was set to go to trial in September. Budd penned an apology letter to Rosenblum as part of the settlement.

Other terms of the settlement include:

—Budd and Rosenblum will attend a hearing of dismissal in which Budd will withdraw requests for Rosenblum to cover attorney fees.

—Budd will not suggest that Rosenblum was connected to the social media account in question.

—Budd will shut down and never reactivate any social media accounts that impers
