TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A normal family get together turned into a big surprise for an East Texas veteran.

“Overwhelming, that’s all I can say,” said Frank Cranston, the veteran who was surprised.

Vettes for Vets Texas chapter held its second annual door knock, with Cranston being chosen as this year’s recipient, after being nominated by his next door neighbor.

The organization, neighbors, and Frank’s family were joined by other Smith County officials and veterans.

They surprised Cranston with a remodel of most of his home, including a new roof, windows, and an all new bathroom.

“He’s a hero, and we feel, we really truly feel like we owe those heroes,” said Neal Franklin, the Smith County judge.
