The Nationals on Saturday placed All-Star southpaw MacKenzie Gore on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Wednesday, with left shoulder inflammation. To take his place on the roster, right-hander Mason Thompson was recalled from Triple-A Rochester.

Gore last pitched on Tuesday against the Yankees in New York, allowing three runs on three hits over five innings and needing 38 pitches to escape a tough third .

After a sterling first half that earned him his first All-Star selection, Gore has recorded a 7.54 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP in eight second-half starts.
