A 49-year-old man died early this morning after he crashed his speeding motorcycle on Nimitz Highway in Kalihi, police said.

Honolulu Police Department Traffic Division officials said the man “was traveling westbound on Nimitz Highway at a high rate of speed, when he lost control and collided with the concrete curb,” ejecting him onto the road.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and pronounced him dead at the scene.

While speed was a factor in the crash, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, police said.

This was Oahu’s 56th traffic fatality this year, compared with 27 at the same time in 2024.
