CAMERON PARISH, La. — The U.S. Department of Energy has finalized approval for a new liquefied natural gas export terminal in Cameron Parish, Louisiana officials announced.
The project, led by Commonwealth LNG, will allow exports of more than 1.2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day to countries without free trade agreements.
U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright said the decision marks a major step forward in expanding the nation’s energy reach.
“Finalizing this authorization moves us closer to delivering more American LNG to the world, bolstering our economy, and ensuring the U.S. continues to lead in affordable, reliable, and secure energy,” Wright said in a statement.
Construction of the facility is expected to begin following a final investment decision later this year.
