In honor of the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Tulane wanted to wear the same all-white uniforms against Northwestern it used in its first game after the storm ravaged New Orleans.
The Wildcats denied the request, wearing all-white uniforms themselves, and Sumrall noted how the Green Wave’s dominating 23-3 win on Saturday at Yulman Stadium matched the score of the Saints’ pulsating victory against the Atlanta Falcons in their first post-Katrina game at the Superdome.
“Kind of cool,” he said. “When you show disrespect to New Orleans, that’s what’s going to happen to you. We had a chip on our shoulder. We might have used that for a little bit of motivation representing the city. Don’t disrespect New Orleans ever.”
