HIDDENITE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 17-year-old has died following a head-on collision in Alexander County Saturday morning, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Around 10:50 a.m., troopers responded to a crash on Sharpe Mill Road near Johnson Farm Road in Hiddenite

Officials say a 1991 Chevrolet S-10 was traveling west on Sharpe Mill when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound 2000 Ford Ranger.

The driver of the S-10, Jacob Elijah Huffman, 17, of Hiddenite, died at the scene. Troopers say he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Ranger, Kimberly Smith Bebber, 56, of Taylorsville, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicates that speed and impairment were not contributing
