The third-ranked South Dakota State football team started off its 2025 campaign with a big win over Sacramento State on Aug. 30 in Brookings.

The Jackrabbits came out on top with a 20-3 victory, giving coach Dan Jackson his first win in charge of the program.

It was a tight game after the first quarter, with the teams being knotted up 3-3. But SDSU took over in the second quarter, scoring 14 points to take a 17-3 lead into the break. The Jackrabbits never really looked back from there, locking down the Hornets' offense while the Jacks' offense added three more points over the final two quarters.

Chase Mason led the way through the air for the Jackrabbits, hitting on 17 of his 23 pass attempts for 190 yards and a score. Junior Andrew Gustad hauled in the four-yard score.
