Laney football had plenty of chances in Week 2.

The Bucs (0-2) landed an early punch, then watched the game tilt away, undone by penalties, a key turnover and missed chances in a 42-7 loss to Raleigh school Garner (1-1) on Aug. 29.

"Believe in the process," Laney coach Steve Brooks told his players after the loss. "It's not going to be overnight."

For a quarter, the process looked promising.

Niko Warren juked a Trojan defender and burst 49 yards for Laney's first home touchdown of 2025, a jolt that woke up the home crowd. Garner answered moments later when wideout Allen Davis bobbled and secured a spectacular grab to tie it.

Everything would go downhill for Laney from there.
