Delectable Heights was founded around 1816 and became the premier location for affluent free Black residents in Petersburg.
"Along with Pocahontas Island, it's one of the largest settlements here for African Americans who have moved to Petersburg," said Howard Myers, who represents Ward 5 on Petersburg City Council.
The nearly five-decade-old event brought together current, former and new residents to celebrate the neighborhood's rich history on Saturday.
"These type of events is always important because these are the people. This is us. We're together," Martio Harris, who is a nephew of one of the community's founders, said. "When we come together, there's so much influence, so much power. And every time our neighborhood comes together, we encourage other neighborhoods to come together
