ANN ARBOR – Michigan football defeated New Mexico State 34-17 Saturday to kick off a new era behind a more explosive offense.
The Wolverines started freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood – the first time a true freshman has led the squad since Tate Forcier in 2009. His debut came along with a new-look pass offense that re-wrote the record book.
Underwood connected with tight end Marlin Klein in the second quarter to kick things. The Belleville High School alum went 21 of 31 for 251 yards. The Wolverines also ran the ball 32 times, totaling 452 yards of offense.
