Two of the best Delaware high school football teams ventured into other states, and while not coming away with victories, reminded the region that pretty good football is played in First State.

Smyrna went toe-to-toe with Coatesville, one of the winningest programs in history, while Middletown went off to Ohio to play Bishop Watterson, a team judged as one of the top 100 in the country.

Both teams will sit at 0-1, but there's no non-conference game the Harvest Bowl rivals could have played that could equal the quality and drama.

That said, we like to look at things with a playoff slant around here, and even if Coatesville and Bishop Watterson both go undefeated, Smyrna and Middletown would get less points (3), than if they beat the worst team in Delaware (4).
