The UTEP cross country team begins its 2025 season with all the excitement and anticipation of a new era, and first-year coach Francesca Green, her athletes and new distance coach Justin Herbert can't wait to see what it holds.

The Miners team that has a completely new, local look will compete for the first time under Green, hired in July, when they make the short trip to Las Cruces for the Lori Fitzgerald Open Saturday morning. In turn this will be Green's first moment of meet as a head coach.

"The saying is it's not how you start, it's how you finish, but I'm excited for this start," Green said. "I'm excited to get this program going. Having coach Herbert here leading our program has been amazing. I'm excited to see where we start and where we continue to build from."
