Ann Arbor — Justice Haynes found out Friday he would be the first running back in the game for Michigan in its season opener, and he made the most of the opportunity.
Haynes, who transferred from Alabama, led the team with 159 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns, including a 56-yarder for the Wolverines’ first points in their 34-17 win over New Mexico on Saturday night at Michigan Stadium. Haynes set a program high in yardage for a running back in his debut since 1970.
