Solitude has always been a favorite companion of mine. It may stem from being raised as an only child of three. I describe myself as a selective extrovert. I am comfortable with groups of people that I like and respect yet crave being left alone as well. Yes, I can be moody, but never depressed.
I relate to a quote from British author and commentator Karen Armstrong: “I like silence; I’m a gregarious loner and without solitude, I lose my gregariousness.” Nelson Mandela also summed it up nicely: “Although I am a gregarious person, I love solitude even more.”
