Superintendent Brent Johnson said Wednesday that Jerome Joint School District needs to amend a policy that prohibits the use of audio recorders, cameras and video equipment in public school board meetings.

Johnson told the Times-News he consulted with legal counsel on Wednesday morning following a regular school board meeting on Tuesday night.

At that meeting, district staff did not allow a television reporter to film inside the meeting, per district policy 1505 . A Times-News reporter shot video on a cellphone inside the boardroom while sitting in a chair in the audience.

Just after the meeting, Assistant Superintendent Ryan Evans approached the Times-News reporter and said it’s against policy to record the meeting. The reporter reminded him that it was a public meeting.
