Two children were injured in a crash when a driver went through a stop sign in Babylon Saturday, Suffolk Police confirmed.

Around 11:50 a.m., a man was driving a Nissan SUV south on Cadman Avenue when the vehicle "malfunctioned" and traveled through a stop sign, according to police.

The Nissan then struck a Lexus SUV heading east on Park Avenue, injuring the driver of the Lexus and a 5-year-old passenger, officials said.

The man driving the Nissan and a 10-year-old passenger in his car also suffered minor injuries and all were taken to area hospitals for evaluation, police said.

In an email, a police spokesperson said the driver "believed it was an engine failure and caused him to accelerate" through the stop sign.
