PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man has died after he was shot by an officer at a south Phoenix park early Sunday morning.

According to Phoenix Police Sgt. Brian Bower, two officers were patrolling the area of 20th Street and Southern Avenue around 1 a.m. Sgt. Bower said the officers noticed a man riding a bike in the area and attempted to stop him.

“They stopped the man to further investigate exactly what he was doing,” he said.

However, the man reportedly dropped his bike and ran away from officers toward Hermoso Park. Officers chased the man and caught up to him.

“The man began resisting arrest, fighting back with officers,” Bower said.
