A major Verizon service outage across the country has been resolved.

More than 22,000 outages were reported late Saturday on the disruption-tracker website ' Down-Detector .'

Most users who lost service saw their iPhones display a "SOS" or "SOS Only" message at the top of their screen.

Calls, texts and mobile data were all affected, as was certain two-factor authentication methods.

The cities most affected included: Atlanta, New York City, Boston, Tampa, Miami and Chicago.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Verizon said the outage was due to a 'software issue.'

Verizon posted to Twitter/X late Saturday night that the service restoration was underway, but did not disclose a reason for the outage.
