Last season, it took a wing and a prayer — a last-second Hail Mary from quarterback Branson Springer to wide receiver Carter Hayward — for the Palisade Bulldogs to knock off the defending Class 2A state champion Delta Panthers in a week one showdown.
This year, things went a little more smoothly for the Bulldogs, who went on the road and cruised past the Panthers 40-7.
Palisade jumped to an early lead in the contest, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter to help establish a commanding 30-0 halftime lead. Delta was largely unable to cut into the Bulldogs lead, managing only one second-half touchdown as Palisade was able to hold on for the comfortable win.
