PHOENIX — A man was left dead following an officer-involved shooting in south Phoenix early on Sunday morning, authorities said.

Two officers with the Phoenix Police Department around 12:45 a.m. responded to the area of 20th Street and Southern Avenue for reports of a man riding on a bicycle.

The officers approached the man, identified on Tuesday as 36-year-old Efrain Hidalgo, as part of their assigned investigation but he abandoned his bike and took off running. Hidalgo was caught up to before he made it too far, but resisted being detained.
