NEW YORK — Mets right fielder Juan Soto tried to will his team to victory on Saturday. Unfortunately, despite helping to put up eight runs against the Marlins, Miami turned out to be slightly better in their 11-8 win.
If Soto were a basketball player in the old 1990s Super Nintendo game “NBA Jam,” he’d be classified as being on fire. Flames would emanate from his bat, and anything he hit would travel far with great velocity, making him virtually unbeatable.
That’s how Soto played on Saturday, when he went 2-for-2 with two home runs and two walks.
“He’s a special player, a special hitter,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said after the game. “He’s locked in right now.”
