President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he intends to issue an executive order mandating voter identification for all voters. He stated on Truth Social, "Voter I.D. Must Be Part of Every Single Vote. NO EXCEPTIONS! I Will Be Doing An Executive Order To That End!!!" Trump also mentioned that mail-in voting would be restricted, allowing it only for individuals who are seriously ill and for military personnel stationed far from home.

Trump has consistently raised concerns about the integrity of the U.S. electoral system. He continues to assert, without evidence, that his loss to Democratic President Joe Biden in the 2020 election was due to widespread fraud. Additionally, he and his Republican supporters have made unsubstantiated claims regarding illegal voting by non-citizens, which is rare.

For years, Trump has advocated for the elimination of electronic voting machines, favoring the use of paper ballots and hand counting. Election officials have criticized this approach, stating that it is more time-consuming, costly, and less accurate than machine counting.

Earlier this month, Trump reiterated his commitment to issuing an executive order to abolish mail-in ballots and voting machines in preparation for the 2026 midterm elections. However, it remains uncertain whether he possesses the constitutional authority to implement such changes, as federal elections are managed at the state level.

The elections scheduled for November 3, 2026, will serve as a significant national referendum on Trump's policies since he resumed office in January. Meanwhile, Democrats are aiming to challenge the Republican majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate to impede Trump's domestic agenda.
