KANSAS CITY, MO — The Detroit Tigers are preparing to increase their active roster from 26 players to 28 players for Monday, Sept. 1, as MLB rosters for all 30 teams expand by two players for the entire month of September.

Don't expect the Tigers to promote No. 1 prospect Kevin McGonigle .

General manager Jeff Greenberg said McGonigle won't be called up for his MLB debut in the 2025 season . The 21-year-old is hitting .262 with eight home runs, 25 walks and 19 strikeouts in 35 games for Double-A Erie, posting a .914 OPS.

"No, I don't think that's on the radar right now," Greenberg said Aug. 20 on MLB Network, when asked if McGonigle will play for the Tigers in 2025. "The focus is on (his) development and getting the reps to continue to take those steps forward."
