CANFIELD, Ohio - The Canfield Fair is known for rides, animals and fair food, but this year it also became a place of worship. On Sunday morning, hundreds of Catholics gathered in the fair’s stable for Mass celebrated by Bishop David Bonnar.

“This is the biggest thing happening in Youngstown right now, the Canfield Fair, and the church always goes where the people are,” Bonnar said. “It’s been a tradition in our diocese for priests to celebrate Mass for all the fairgoers.”

The Mass was part of the bishop’s renewed outreach to connect both rural and urban parishes across the six counties that make up the Diocese of Youngstown. “Our diocese has rural elements and urban elements, and our task is to bring unity among all God’s people despite our differences,” Bonnar said.
