WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — An investigation is underway in Luzerne County after a man allegedly fired shots at police.

According to the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, officers received a report of a physical and sexual assault victim at an area hospital. As part of the investigation, police tried to execute a search warrant at a home on Barney and Richard Street in south Wilkes-Barre. When officers tried to enter the home, a gunman opened fire. No officers were hurt.

Police then surrounded the home. After an hours-long standoff, police entered the home and found the gunman died by suicide.

"Scene was pretty intense. There were a lot of vehicles here, a lot of police action, there were snipers, they had a robot dog, there was a helicopter circling," said neighbor August West.
