A Roanoke City Council district 5 candidate does not live in district 5, according to the Randolph County Probate Office.
The Randolph Leader reported Elish Smith was notified of the error prior to the election, although it was too late to change the ballots.
Smith lives on Bradley Street, which is the dividing line between districts 2 and 5. The probate office determined that the exact address falls within district 2 lines as they were inputting information into computers last week.
Smith received 17% of the votes on Tuesday. Kara Hare received the most votes with 33%. Incumbent Kesa Johnston received 25%, putting Hare and Johnston in the September 23 run-off election.
