Motorists have been issued a warning amid new rules to come into force from the DVLA . Some drivers could be fined up to £1,000 if they don't pay attention to the changes.

From tomorrow Monday September 1, new vehicles will carry the latest 75 registration plates . Experts have warned that many drivers are still unclear on the rules around registrations and plate display.

Getting it wrong can mean a fine of up to £1,000 or an MOT failure. "With the 75 plates about to roll out, it is still worrying that many motorists do not fully understand their number plates," said a spokesperson for BigWantsYourCar.com .

They added: "Knowing what the letters and numbers mean is useful, but the key is making sure the plate meets the rules so your car stays road legal."
