Drafted in the eighth round (110th overall) by the Cleveland Browns in the 1964 NFL Draft out of Morgan State University, Leroy Kelly emerged as a versatile back after backing up Jim Brown initially.
He spent his entire NFL career with the Browns (1964-1973), later playing one season in the World Football League in 1974.
Taking over as starter in 1966, Kelly rushed for over 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons (1966-1968), leading the NFL in rushing yards in 1967 (1,205) and 1968 (1,239), and in touchdowns those years.
