One of the most crucial yet understated positions in Detroit government has always been that of the Office of the Ombudsman.

The 10-year appointed position is often referred to as the representative of the people. It was established in 1973 to ensure that the complaints and petitions of residents are heard at the highest levels within City Hall, and serves as an important avenue to address the everyday challenges that Detroiters face, as well as to investigate issues related to various city agencies.
