CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- First-year head coach Katie Hultin has already made history with the Illini soccer program.
With a 2-1 road win over Kentucky, Illinois opens up the season 5-0-0. A first-year coach has not opened the season with five wins since 1999, and the team has not opened with five wins since 2004.
Illinois's first four wins all came in shutouts, another historic moment for the program. Against Kentucky, Cayla Jackson and Ellen Persson both scored in the first half, and while she allowed her first goal of the season, Izzy Lee came through with several critical saves.
The Illini stay in the SEC with Braggin' Rights against Missouri on Thursday, September 4, then return home against Valparaiso on Sunday, September 7.
