LAKE OZARKS — One year ago today, officer Phylicia Carson died while attempting to pursue a suspect during a traffic stop. Carson traveled high speeds late at night on Route 54, veered off the road and crashed into a tree. The suspect, Christopher Wehmeyer, also crashed and was arrested.
With it being one year since her passing, the Osage Beach community is still grappling with the loss, but her coworkers and fellow officers are dedicated to honoring her legacy and continuing to serve.
"She was fantastic," Cpl. Pete Leyva said. "Phylicia Carson was a very boisterous person. We did a lot of talking in the car, she did a lot of listening in the car. She had a lot to say and wanted to learn."
