LAKE WALLENPAUPACK ESTATES, Pa. — At 52 miles in perimeter, 13 miles in length, 2 miles in width, Lake Wallenpaupack is the second largest lake completely enclosed within the state of Pennsylvania. It is 40 feet deep on average and 60 feet at its deepest point.

Wallenpaupack is a Lenape word meaning "smooth, swift flowing water," and it perfectly describes the lake at the heart of one of Pennsylvania's most beloved summer destinations .

But Lake Wallenpaupack wasn't always as big as it is now. It was created between 1924 and 1926 by Pennsylvania Power & Light to generate hydroelectric power, which it still creates today!
