The North Carolina Tar Heels football team opens the 2025 college football season against the TCU Horned Frogs on Monday, Sept. 1 (8 p.m., ESPN ) at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill.

Entering its debut season under head coach Bill Belichick , UNC is trying to rebound from a losing season with more than 70 new players on the 2025 roster. Belichick, who spent nearly 50 years in the NFL and won six Super Bowl championships as head coach of the New England Patriots, is coaching in college football for the first time.

The 40th football coach in program history, Belichick has a roster that includes notable transfers in quarterback Gio Lopez, defensive back Thad Dixon, along with linebackers Andrew Simpson and Khmori House. The coaching staff features more than 240 years of combined NFL experience.
