A local artist wanted to do something good to freshen up Grapevine and paint the town.

Katie Sauceda set her sights on a Texas mural painted on the spillway at Grapevine Lake 40 years ago.

The bright red, white, and blue colors had faded over the years, so Sauceda rounded up some volunteers to help bring new life to the mural. With the permission of the Fort Worth District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, about a dozen people spent the morning with buckets of paint and brushes.

A few hours later, the mural that paid tribute to Texas’ sesquicentennial was as good as new.

Sauceda knows a thing or two about showcasing Texas history.
