A 59-year-old woman serving a sentence for fraud has escaped from the minimum-security unit at Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener.

Correctional Service Canada said Carolyn Burden was not accounted for during an 11:30 a.m. count on Sunday at the facility on Homer Watson Boulevard.

Officials immediately contacted police and a warrant for the inmate’s arrest has been issued, a release said.

Burden is described as five-foot-five-inches tall, weighs 130 pounds, has a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. She is currently serving a five-year sentence for fraud over $5,000.

Waterloo Regional Police said if she’s seen, do not approach her and call 911 or 519-570-9777 .

Correctional Service Canada said it will investigate the incident.
