NIXA, Mo. (KY3) - A Nixa, Mo., boy saved the lives of five people across the Midwest through organ donation.

Elias Reid Highfill tragically died last summer in a pool accident, according to his parents.

Elias was rushed to CoxHealth South after drowning in a pool while staying at his grandparents’ house last June. His parents, Miranda and Austin Highfill, said they’re still heartbroken.

“I rushed into the bedroom to him and just threw the door open and was just like, ‘Elias drowned in the pool!’” Miranda said to Austin moments after learning of her son’s death.

Elias was just one month away from turning three years old at the time of his death . Doctors tried their hardest to save Elias, but it was too late.
