Brits' Christmas holidays under threat as major European hotspot goes on strike

Brits who are planning to jet off to Portugal over the next three months have been warned to expect severe disruption as airport workers launch strike action. Ground handling staff working at all of the country's airports issued a strike notice threatening to walk out from this Wednesday (September 3) until January 2, 2026.

Portugal is among Brits' most favoured destinations for a holiday, with 2.5 million people having visited there over the past year, according to the Portugal Tourism Board. Popular destinations set to be hit by the industrial action include Lisbon, Faro and Porto, and disruption is expected to affect Christmas and New Year holidays.
