The weather forecast for this week calls for very warm temperatures that are not as hot as meteorologists feared .

Instead of trending toward triple digits, the highs for this week are mostly expected to be in the 80s, with the exception of Tuesday when the high could crack 90, according to the National Weather Service.

That’s good news for schoolchildren and teachers in Portland Public Schools, where only 20 of the district’s buildings have modern air conditioning systems . The district serves 81 schools, and the Portland Association of Teachers union has asked the district to send students home early on the hottest days this week.

The forecast Monday calls for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 81 degrees. Tuesday will be sunny and the high may reach 90.
