LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Labor Day marks the first day of National Preparedness Month .
It’s to encourage people to take action now by creating emergency plans.
This year’s theme is ‘Preparedness Starts at Home.’
“Being prepared for it is even more important than being in it,” said Lt. Chanel Reams with the London-Laurel Rescue Squad.
FEMA’s Ready Campaign has recognized National Preparedness Month for more than 20 years now.
FEMA uses the month as a time to take small steps that can make a big difference in being prepared.
“It can be the difference between life and death,” said Reams.
Reams said January’s winter storm, April’s historic flood, and May’s deadly tornado are just a few examples of why preparedness should be taken seriously.
