It was a rematch six years in the making.

Facing each other at the U.S. Open for the first time since their instant-classic match there in 2019, No. 3 Coco Gauff and No. 23 Naomi Osaka met again at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday afternoon.

And once again, Osaka came out on top.

Osaka pulled off an upset win, 6-3, 6-2, in only 64 minutes to advance to the U.S. Open quarterfinal for the first time since 2020.

The 27-year-old Osaka controlled the match from start to finish, taking advantage as Gauff committed 33 unforced errors and struggled to land shots with her forehand.

Osaka got off to a fast start, breaking Gauff’s serve in the first game and winning the second game, too.
