The annual Mount Baldy Run-to-the-Top race had hundreds of runners taking on a 4,000-foot elevation gain Monday morning, Sept. 1.

This year was the 60th year for the trail race up Mount Baldy, known for the steep incline during the more than 7-mile run.

The cooler morning made it an ideal time to take on the challenge, before the day’s warmer temperatures set in.

The race began at the top of Mount Baldy Road at 6,300 feet and ended on the summit of Mount San Antonio — aka Mount Baldy — at 10,064 feet, in the San Gabriel Mountains. The elevation gain makes this one of the most challenging trail races in California, according to a news release.
