CHARLOTTESVILLE - He’s been at Virginia long enough to know at least for right now, this is his best chance to contribute.
“There is a lot of competitive depth everywhere on the field,” Cavaliers junior Caleb Hardy said, “and you’ve just got to find your way on the field and special teams is where I think I can get on.”
It’s an extremely unselfish approach to take, especially for Hardy, who entered this season with five career starts as a safety and plenty of meaningful reps there. But he’s been transitioning to linebacker, which is a loaded group for UVa, and as Hardy adjusts defensive responsibilities behind the scenes, he still wants to help during game action.
Hardy’s selflessness was rewarded on Saturday during the Hoos’ 48-7 romp of Coastal Carolina in the season opener.
